MIAMI - Lance Harke, managing partner of the Miami-based commercial litigation law firm of Harke Clasby & Bushman LLP, (http://www.harkeclasby.com/) recently served on the faculty as an instructor for the American Bar Association Section of Litigation, and National Institute for Trial Advocacy's (NITA) Critical Trial Skills training program which was held at the University Of Miami School Of Law on May 22 nd -May 24 th . The program provided intensive trial skills advocacy training for legal services attorneys from around the country.
The three day workshop provided critical trial skills for legal services attorneys with an emphasis on "learning by doing," requiring attorneys to perform legal exercises designed to make them more effective advocates. Each exercise was conducted in a simulated courtroom setting as if it were an actual trial. Constructive feedback was provided by highly educated instructors, like Lance Harke who offered specific ways attorneys can improve their advocacy skills and be more successful in representing their client's needs.
The National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) was created in 1971 and is a not-for-profit continuing legal education institution for legal service attorneys, public defenders, and attorneys who have chosen to work in child advocacy, tribal law, death penalty defense, immigration, domestic violence and other vital areas of public interest. The organization is the nation's leading provider of legal advocacy skills training, providing professional development and continuing legal education for nearly 6,000 attorneys each year. NITA's seminars and materials generally focus on advocacy skills, and in recent years NITA has expanded to include the training of lawyers in the creation and utilization of technology in the courtroom.
